Our Pastor
Pastor B.J. VanAman was born and raised in the small town of Hastings, MI. Both of his parents were Christians and faithfully took him to church. As a boy, Pastor VanAman understood he was a sinner, that the Lord Jesus Christ died for his sins, and he personally received Him as his Savior. As he grew older, he desired to work with his father in their family business. However, the Lord got a hold of his heart on a mission trip to Jamaica in the summer of 2003.
Biblical Beliefs
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the revealed Word of God, fully and verbally inspired of God. We believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant, infallible Word of God, as found within the sixty-six books from Genesis to Revelation. We believe that God not only inspired every word, but that He has preserved them through the ages. We believe that the King James Version is the preserved Word of God for the English-speaking people and is the only acceptable translation to be used in this church. Psalm 12:6-7, II Timothy 3:15-17, I Peter 1:23-25, II Peter 1:20-21
God
We believe in one God Who is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe God has one nature, one essence, and one substance; yet manifests Himself to man in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Deuteronomy 6:4, I Timothy 1:17, James 1:17, 1 John 4:4
The Lord Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, eternally existing, is the only begotten Son of God, Who became a sinless man to redeem us. He was born of a virgin and is true God and true man. Luke 1:30-55, John 1:1-15, Philippians 2:5-8
The End of Time and the Eternal State
Jesus Christ, Himself, will soon come again in the air to catch up His Church to reward its service. The unbelievers left behind will go through a period called the Tribulation, after which Christ will physically return to the earth to set up His Kingdom of one thousand years. After this, the unbelievers of all ages will stand at the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into the Lake of Fire, separated from God forever, while the believers spend eternity in the fullness of joy in Heaven with the Lord. Matthew 24:29-42, I Thessalonians 4:16-18, Revelation 19:11, Revelation 20:13
Our Service to God and the Local Church
The local church is a group of born-again believers baptized by water; united together for edification, exhortation, and evangelism as commanded by Christ in the Great Commission: preaching the Gospel to every Creature. Mark 16:15, I Corinthians 12:12, Ephesians 1:22-23
Man's Sin
Man was created in the image of God but fell through sin, bringing not only physical death, but also spiritual death or eternal separation from God. Now all of mankind exists as a fallen race with an inherited sinful nature. Genesis 2:16-17, Genesis 3:16-19, Romans 3:10-23, Romans 6:23
Salvation
The Lord Jesus Christ suffered and died as a substitutionary payment for the sins of the whole world. He physically arose from the dead and then ascended into Heaven. One must personally receive Christ as their Savior to be spared from the consequences of sin. Luke 24, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 5:8-10, Romans 10:13, I Peter 3:18
Still Church
Still Preaching
” For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.” 1 Corinthians 1:21
Still Family
“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it…” Psalm 127:1
Still Hymns
“Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Ephesians 5:19
The great hymns of our faith still generate an attitude toward God that is anything but lifeless and boring. Enjoy the blessing of spiritual songs.
Still Reverent
“But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” 1 Timothy 3:15
At Pickerington Baptist Temple, Christ is the goal. We believe that every area of our lives should project a spirit of Christ-likeness, for we serve a holy God.
Still Exciting
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” John 4:24
God doesn’t need the Top 40 or the latest fads to be exciting. We still enjoy several timeless practices that stir the soul.
